Yshao Lin

I was born in a remote island in southern part of China. Ever since I can remember my family has always been in the state of relocating to pursue a better life, from our island to Fuzhou, a big city in China, to New York, and from New York to Chicago. My concept of home and identity has become blurry during the transition. Therefore, exploring identity, sense of belonging, the relationship between people and their surrounding are my primary artistic motivations. Through these motivations, I use photography as a way for self-consolation, reconnecting to the past, and searching where I belong.
